Description:
In 1982, the process of credit card transactions was quite different from today's electronic systems. When a customer made a purchase using a credit card, the payment was manually processed using an imprinter, commonly known as a "knucklebuster." To complete the transaction, the merchant would place the customer's credit card on a sales slip that contained carbon paper between two layers. Using the imprinter, a metal plate with raised numbers, the merchant would slide it over the card, creating a physical impression of the credit card information on the sales slip.
