WHITELAND, Ind. — Officials with the Whiteland Police Department are asking the public to avoid Whiteland Road near Whiteland Community High School because of a recently formed sinkhole.

According to a post on the Whiteland Police Department’s social media, officials said a sinkhole has formed along Whiteland Road near Brewer ditch and the high school. This comes after the area has seen significant rain and flooding.

Officials said that Whiteland Road will be shut down at U.S. 31 and Center Street. The post read that no through traffic will be permitted.

As of 8:55 a.m., officials with the department said the sinkhole measured three feet wide and five feet deep.

The Clark-Pleasant Community School Corporation, the district that the Whiteland Community High School is a part of, is on spring break this week.

This is an ongoing situation. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
