George Clinton (born July 22, 1941, Kannapolis, North Carolina, U.S.) is a highly influential funk music singer, songwriter, and musician who organized and produced Parliament-Funkadelic, a genre-bending theatrical collective of performers who defined funk music in the 1970s.

Clinton was selected as President Jefferson's running mate in the 1804 presidential election, replacing Aaron Burr. Vice President Burr had fallen out with the Jefferson administration early in his tenure, and President Jefferson often consulted with Clinton rather than Burr regarding New York appointments.

He also rode with Washington to the first inauguration, as well as hosting a dinner in honor of the president. In 1777, Clinton was elected to the New York governorship. He won reelection in 1780, 1783, 1786, 1789, 1792, and 1801, becoming New York's longest serving governor.

DEWITT CLINTON, the seventh and ninth governor to serve New York, was born in Little Britain, New York on March 2, 1769. His education was attained at Columbia University, where he graduated in 1786. He went on to study law, and around 1788 was admitted to the bar.
