James has been a shining light amid a difficult campaign at Old Trafford, scoring three goals from nine matches and weighing in with an assist along the way.

He was just one of three signings Manchester United made during the transfer window, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire also touching down.

United We Stand said to Woodward they were told by Giggs that the player was 'quick as f***'.

And Woodward said: "Well, that's accurate, but we got alot more than that."

He then elaborated: "He was a played flagged as 'YA' - a young player who could be 'A-level,' who we'd been tracking for three years.

"The academy scouts handed his file over to the scouts who look at the first team when Dan became a first-team player (at Swansea).

"He was on our radar well before the deal for him to go to Leeds fell through."

James sparkled as United drew 1-1 with Liverpool on Sunday, with the winger providing the assist for Marcus Rashford's close-range finish.

And Rashford believes he's striking up a good connection with his team-mate, saying after the game: "It was a good goal but we definitely want more.

"We had a bit of eye contact before so probably without looking at each other and getting that little connection we wouldn't have got the goal.

"Instead you'd miss, which has happened a lot in the past."

James recently hailed United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for helping him - and also revealed what the Norwegian told him in training.

Man United: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praises Daniel James

"Every training session, he’s trying to make me better.

"On the pitch he’s always telling me to go at players.

"He’s never negative, he’s always positive with everything.

"I think I wasn’t coming here to just be a squad player, but for the gaffer to believe in me and play me from the start – obviously in the Chelsea game I come on first game, but I’ve played every one since then, and that’s something that I want to continue to do."
