United have spent heavily on high-profile players in recent years, and while they are still able to attract signings of the quality of Bruno Fernandes, other deals haven't worked out well.

The signing of Mkhitaryan, who cost £30m from Borussia Dortmund, didn't work out and neither did the acquisition of Angel Di Maria for £59.7m.
United also paid £89m to re-sign Paul Pogba from Juventus in 2016 but, despite some impressive moments, the Frenchman has lacked consistency.
In 2015 Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin cost £25m each but both failed to live up to expectations.
Other clubs such as Liverpool have also spent heavily on players such as Virgil van Dijk, who cost £75m, but they have also made astute purchases, such as bringing in Andy Robertson from Hull for just £8m.
