Japanese mayonnaise is a delicious condiment. It’s rich, creamy, and incredibly addictive. You use it for your baked sushi, your homemade Korean-style egg drop sandwich, and more. The most popular brand you might be reaching for when you go grocery shopping might be the Kewpie brand.
However, you should be aware if you shop at other stores, Kewpie Philippines warned. There have been some reports that some of their products have been repacked they said in a September 8 Facebook post.
The Facebook post may be your sign to check your Kewpie mayo bottle. To determine if it’s the real thing or if it has been repacked, here are the signs to look for:
- Does it come in the easy-to-handle squeeze bottle?
- Is the bottle properly sealed?
- Does the bottle tip have the signature star-shaped tip?
- Does the red cap also have a narrow tip?
It’s not just the bottle. The package it came in may be different, especially if it has been repacked. Authorized dealers and retailers should have bottles that come from Japan or from either Thailand or Vietnam.
Here’s what the real Kewpie Japanese Mayonnaise packs should look like according to Kewpie Philippines:
Did you buy a bottle that was repacked? Kewpie Philippines suggests that these repacked products may pose a threat to your safety since only authorized products are properly packed. Plus, these repacked bottles may affect its best taste and quality.
Furthermore, the brand suggests only buy from its “authorized distributors and retailers or from leading supermarkets in the country.”
