About this event
The sight of white sail
tips cresting the horizon of Falmouth Bay will herald another landmark moment in the
history of Falmouth, Cornwall, as the end of August is when the harbour town
plays host to one of the biggest international sailing events on the maritime
calendar.
With many impressive vessels from around the world arriving in Falmouth for the race from the 15th of August and setting sail on the 18th for A Coruna, TimeLine Events felt this was one of those Summer Events you wouldn't want to miss. We are sure you will agree you can only do such a spectacle justice from the water so we have hired a fast 33ft chase boat that is licensed to carry a small group of photographers, this will allow unprecedented close up access to all the boats as they jostle for position at the start line just off Falmouth. However there is so much more to this event, with the race competitors starting to leave their moorings around mid morning we take up position in and around the harbour so's not to miss any of the early action. Seeing these wonderful vessels leaving Falmouth harbour will be a must see as they pass the twin Tudor castles of Pendennis and St Mawes.
The Tall Ships Races Magellan Elcano series will celebrate the first circumnavigation of the world by Ferdinand Magellan and Sebastián Elcano over 500 years ago. The landmark expedition is one of the most important journeys undertaken in the history of maritime navigation and epitomises the unique and impactful experience of The Tall Ships Races.
Our day will begin at around 10.30am when we depart from Falmouth harbour and head to the start line in readiness for what will be the pinnacle of the day; seeing these wonderful ships get underway and race on mass, their ultimate goal the finish line in around six days at A Coruna. Although we clearly won't be going all the way with them we will of course stay with them for a couple of hours, to capture those oh so impressive shots as they punch their way through open waters and their crews do battle with the elements.
Nearer the time full joining details and exact timings will be sent to those who book this event but we expect our day will finish up at 5pm.
