Select the right geraniums for summer-long blooms

There are some exceptional varieties to choose from, even when space is tight

The first sun-loving geranium I remember growing was the lovely Geranium ‘Johnson’s Blue’. It sprung up with a mound of fresh green foliage in spring and flowered throughout the summer, refreshed by a quick shearing back to the basal foliage in early July. I still enjoy this charming variety, but my love for it has been superseded. Geranium ‘Brookside’ is a similar size — and it flowers from June to August. It is weed suppressing, has an Award of Garden Merit (AGM) and flowers in a far more intense shade of blue with a delicate white centre. I also covet the slightly larger Geranium ‘Orion’, which blooms between June and August with clear blue flowers, red veining to the petals and a white centre. I
