I actually like this body style, along with the split rear window, no quarter windows, maybe a flatter top, but otherwise good--do any of you know if there are any build threads on these, I've tried a search without much luck

Does anybody know how the Finnish coupe was made? It really looks cool, I'm sure if VW had made one at the factory, it would have looked like this Wink

I understand that the rear hood was made from a front hood. What about the doors? The rear pillars look like they are front pillars, reversed?

How did they make the rear deck and the roof? Did they use an original roof or parts of it and move it forward? If so, where did they cut? Or is it all new and fabricated?

All I know about the Finnish coupe is that it is all steel and made from scrap splitpieces... I have seen some old photos of it in red basecoat but never seen any work in progress pics, yet anyways... I know the builder though... Smile

The 1953 beetle makes a lousy 1937 Lincoln Zephyr Coupe.

this is in a different league. Awesome.

So I'm guessing it's impossible to get a coupe like this unless you put in hundreds of hours in metal fabrication to create a fake one?

I love the low swooping rear.
Looks a lot better than the Beetles lack of a rear.
Gives it that lead slead look.

The one in this link, is what I'd like to end up with.
Any suggestions on how to accomplish this?

Just cut up a couple of beetles for donor sheetmetal and start hammerform pieces and weld it all together as patchwork....

personally don't think that's the best example as it's a bit lumpen at the rear. but as hebster52 says hours of fun with sawzall, welder and hammer. only other options are glassfibre (hours of fun with wood, plaster and sandpaper) or look out for a finished project that's for sale.

this is a decent example of a dub sled

I know. Mine's not a coupe but a roadster (hebmuller prototype tribute) but you get the ideas behind the work.

Got it tackwelded to one piece yesterday.
