SZA Covers i-D Magazine in a Stunning Photoshoot by Petra Collins

This is stunning.

SZA is having, arguably, one of the best year's of any artist right now. Despite her Grammy's snub, she was nominated more than any other female artist for the awards and has seen massive success with her album Ctrl. This week the 27-year-old artist, known for her incredible voice and gorgeous hair, is covering the May issue of i-D magazine shot by photographer Petra Collins.

At a time where are 13.7% of all covers are shot by women and a fraction of the covers go to women of color, this matchup is not only refreshing, it's breathtaking. For the spread, SZA stays true to her signature style mixing street style pieces with high-fashion. The photos are moody with warm colors that show a very real side of the artist. In one image, she's crouched down in a red hoodie holding a bouquet of flowers as the light hits her perfectly. Though simple, it shows the power of her presence in a photograph.

While she seems like a natural, in her interview SZA explains that fame and being interviewed for magazines isn't quite in her comfort zone yet. “I don’t enjoy being interviewed," she tells them. "I feel like it exhausts a lot of my energy. I feel empty after. I don’t know how to speak any other way than I do."

While sometimes it's hard to imagine that musicians and celebs are just like us, further in the interview, SZA shares that her Instagram habits are, well, like yours. "I definitely get inspiration from the ‘gram. I mean, Instagram is Google, essentially. I love looking at pictures of beautiful women." She does warn, however, that using the social platform too much isn't a good thing. "But I think, for any human being, if you start to look at it too long it’ll make you look at yourself a little weird. It really depends on what mood I’m in. For instance, if I have a crazy-ass breakout and I look at really pretty, smooth-skin women on Instagram, I might be a little sad about my face that day."
