Marianne Aasen to lead SSRI from summer 2017

Member of Parliament, Marianne Aasen, will join Simula as Director of Simula School of Research and Innovation (SSRI) when she leaves Parliament next summer.

Mrs. Aasen has represented The Norwegian Labour Party in Parliament for 12 years. The first four-year period in the Standing Committee for Finance and Economic Affairs, and the Standing Committee on Education, Research and Church Affairs since 2009. From next summer, she will lead the educational and outreach activities of Simula.

– I am very pleased that Marianne Aasen is ready to join Simula, says Professor Aslak Tveito, Managing Director of Simula. – She has experience and connections that will give SSRI new possibilities. It will be noticed among everyone interested in research, education and innovation that Mrs. Aasen will join Simula, says Tveito.

The education and outreach activities of Simula are organized in the Simula School of Research and Innovation (SSRI). Mrs. Aasen will, among other things, be responsible for the success and well-being of about 50 PhD students, and the progress and development of more than 60 Master’s students. In addition, Mrs. Aasen will be responsible for organizing the outreach activities Simula conducts at schools in Oslo and Akershus counties.

Finally, Mrs. Aasen will have a central role in the collaborative projects of Simula, both nationally and internationally. The last few years Simula has entered into elaborate and formal collaborations with both the University of California, San Diego and with the University of Bergen, and will be seeking similar opportunities in the future.
