Marzamemi beach

Province of Syracuse

Marzamemi is renowned for its beaches and its charming old tonnara.

Marzamemi is a small old village located on the Ionian coast close to the town of Pachino. It is renowned for its beaches and its charming old tonnara that has been converted in a fascinating venue which every year hosts lots of events and festival, during the summertime. One of them is the International Film Festival that occurs in July and it is an amazing occasion to watch films projected directly on the walls of the buildings surrounding the main square. Its name derives from the Arab language Marsà al-hamam, that means Turtle Dove Bay. They colonised this part of the coast and founded this little village and its Tonnara. The coastline is made of a white sandy beach lapped by a turquoise and green sea, here it is possible to find lots of fully equipped resorts and a few area with a free access.
