Description

This is quite a rare, but very elegant clump-forming perennial from the mountains of central Portugal.

In growth it is usually a little smaller than the related liliastrum but the flowers appear to be more trumpet-shaped in the throat whilst flaring more widely at the mouth. The racemes grow to a height of about 75 cm maximum and 55 cm is more normal, although I have seen others say that it is taller!

Very lovely and would not be confused with its sister species.

By the way liliastrum and lusitanica may appear to clash in gender but they do not – one is a noun and the other is an adjective, the species names are correct.
