Is Matt Lucas Bringing New Episodes of 'Little Britain' To Netflix? Here's Everything We Know So Far

Little Britain creators Matt Lucas and David Walliams may reboot their hit sketch comedy show on Netflix.

In an interview on BBC Radio 2's The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show, Lucas confirmed that the comic duo behind the BBC program have been in discussion with Netflix about future episodes on the streaming service.

"It might happen. We had a conversation with them a while ago, and so the seed was planted in our head. We'd love to bring it back in some way and at some point," Lucas said while promoting his new podcast.

The radio interview confirmed a previous report in British tabloid The Sun, which described a telephone meeting Lucas and Walliams planned to have with Netflix. According to an unnamed source, Netflix offered the duo approximately $3.6 million to reboot the show, with new episodes to be produced by BBC Studios.

But whether it's on Netflix or not, there will be more Little Britain.

"We're both quite busy boys, but we're speaking often, and one idea was to maybe do a stage show of it again," Lucas added. "I think it will come back in some form, we're just still figuring out what that will be."

Originally a radio show on BBC Radio 4, Little Britain ran for three seasons, from 2003 to 2005, with several specials and even a Little Britain live show. In the series, Walliams and Lucas played over-the-top versions of British character types, with a voice-over acting almost as an anthropological guide to these typically British oddballs. The series was followed by an HBO spinoff called Little Britain USA.

Popular characters included the obnoxious teen chav Vicky Pollard (Lucas), weight-watcher tyrant Marjorie Dawes (Lucas) and overbearing Scottish hotel owner Ray McCooney (Walliams), who terrorizes his visitors with riddles and his piccolo.

Since Little Britain, Walliams has become a best-selling author of children's books, in addition to his ongoing role as a judge on Britain's Got Talent, while Lucas has popped up in movies like Bridesmaids and Alice in Wonderland.

Lucas will also be the new co-host for the 11th season of The Great British Bake Off, replacing Sandi Toksvig, host of the TV quiz show QI.

Should Little Britain get the Netflix treatment, it would join a broad slate of other rebooted comedy series, including Arrested Development, Trailer Park Boys, Wet Hot American Summer and Mystery Science Theater 3000.
