We will begin this tour in the Roman theatre of Malaga with its archaeological remains of the ancient Malacca theatre and the preserved vestiges of the Roman presence in Malaga.
It is located in the historic centre of the city, at the foot of the Alcazaba hill. It was built in the early years of the Roman Empire and its design corresponds to a mixed construction that combines the use of the hill slope for the grandstand - in the manner of the Greek theatres - with an important construction where the rock is non-existent, creating the space necessary for the stands.
Furthermore, it is a medium-sized theatre that retains much of the grandstand, the orchestra richly decorated with large slabs of marble, and the scena, where today its pavement has been reproduced with a wooden parquet like the one it would have in its time of use. The stage set would close at the bottom with an ornamental façade decorated with spans, columns and sculptures, from which several specimens have been recovered.
The walk then continues to the Alcazaba, where we will climb up the interior of its walls, passing through the Gate of the Arch of Christ, used as a street chapel in the past. Already up, we will see different divisions like the Patio of arms used in the time of the Catholic Kings or the Rooms of Granada, famous for their incomparable views.
This impressive palace/fortress, whose Arabic name means "citadel", has a current surface of 15,000 square meters, but not even half the size it had in its time of splendour. In this visit, we will count on what purpose was built, its extensions, reforms, curiosities and who lived in it.
From here we will also have views of the Gibralfaro Fortress, key element for centuries for the defence of the city of Malaga.
