Yeah. That Dan guy is pretty ok. He's not only meticulous in every aspect of every build he does but he's also a walking history book when it comes to early hot rods and race cars.
Man the work Cory Taulbert did on that blows my mind. The backside of the gauge panel, the one off switches. That little racer is just bananas and Shaw numbers on it to top it off!
Only a fraction of the detail we’ve seen go in to this thing. I’m afraid we’d need a ladder that’s forever to get on his level
I had the opportunity to take 2 metal shaping classes at Craig's VA. shop with he and Ron Covel. Craig (and Ron) are amazing Shapers !! I also had the opportunity to see the Dan Webb/Craig Naff collaboration on the Golden Submarine project. Here a few pictures I took in process
The amazing thing about that car is every piece on it works with and compliments the rest of it perfectly. The extra thought and effort to make sure that every part fits in and works both mechanically and visually with every other part around it. Staying 100% on theme and not taking any detours.
Got to talk with him for a while in Detroit Got to check out the Golden Sub with him explaining each detail. A machined firewall “grommet” for the throttle linkage to pass through. gotta love that
It's not often that the knack of picking an older design of vehicle, combined with the talent of being able to build the updated version with spectacular results, come from the same person ! I had wanted to meet Dan, because we share the same love of cats, him and both of us had 16. At Pat Ganahl's Memorial, I got to spend a half hour just visiting, with him in a quiet corner of the Galpin Museum. He is not only a gifted builder, but a fun guy to talk to. Here is Dan telling his story, very long but great.
A few of the cars that dan built "live"at brumos collection in jacksonville, be sure and check it out if your every down that way
+3" ride height, lights and tags and I'm in! Race cars are cool, but for that kind f money I gotta be able to drive something more than at a track. Same reason I would never have a pure drag car, snowmobile, dirt bike, ATV, etc... But that car is automotive art for sure.
I got a little Auburn brand rubber toy car when I was a kid that looks very much like that. Still have it too, sitting up on my shelf.
