Peruvian officials are celebrating the reopening of the famed Inca citadel of Machu Picchu after a two-month closure caused by flooding.

Hundreds of foreign tourists entered the city following its official reopening this morning as an early downpour gave way to brilliant sunshine, vice-tourism minister Mara Seminario said.

Actress Susan Sarandon took part in the reopening ceremony.

Floods in late January disrupted the only rail link from Cuzco to the ruins, trapping some 4,000 tourists, many of whom had to be rescued with helicopters.
