Love them, except…DonnaThey’re exactly what I wanted, and I have them in several rooms. They’re bright, clean and fresh looking . After six months though, one of the strips has cracked. Wondering if that piece can be replaced and if so, where? Also, trying to figure out how they could be easily washable when the strip needs to be cut out of the blind. What am I missing?5
Great for privacy KatieI hung this on my glass front door. I can see through the curtain from the inside and it lets in a lot of light, but people outside can't see through it. I'm very happy with this! 5
Cool shades but not pure white!BetsyI really like these shades. After looking everywhere both in stores and online, these were the best priced and had the clean lines I wanted for my bay windows. I really love the cool magnets that make them stay up. I agree with other reviews that the clip is really not needed. They actually are not that see through like other reviews say. Super easy to install, it took me like two minutes each window. Does not come with screws, but luckily I had some. Wish they were pure white though, these are more beige than white. That’s the only thing I’m not crazy about. But other than that, I really like them and plan to buy more for my other windows. Thanks IKEA!4
Attractive and inexpensiveJohnI bought one, loved it so much that I bought another and wish I needed more. It would be nice if there were more color options, but the green stripes look great and makes my home office look a lot more classy.5
Replacement Ribs Needed PatriciaAbsolutely love these shades. Have had them in the guest room and office for three years. A couple of the ribs broke in the guest room and the shades won’t stay up. If there was any way to buy replacement ribs these would be absolutely perfect. If not then they become disposable textiles which is unfortunate-the ribs being the weak link.4

Works well for us!LarryWe purchased nine of these shades for our sunroom. It does exactly what we needed. Couple of things to note: 1) They won't give you complete privacy at night when the lights are on inside. Not a problem for how we intended to use the shades. Definitely wouldn't recommend them for a bedroom window. 2) The description says "block annoying glares on TV and computer screens." Doesn't block out enough light for projector/screen use during daylight. 3) You can remove the hooks and insert use with a regular curtain rod or tension rod (what we used). 4) If you have a large window and can't find the proper size consider buying two. We have a large 67 inch window and purchased a 34" and 32" shade and used it with an extra sturdy tension rod and it has worked great so far. 5) I love how we can lower the shades in the morning to protect our furniture from harsh direct sunlight while still allowing some natural light into the room. These shades were a very economical option for our sunroom.5

Great valueKathleenThis is the second set of blinds I have purchased. They are just what I was looking for. The only issue I had with the first set was that the magnets in the casings eventually broke, and the blinds didn’t work as well. I’m hoping that they have improved the magnet quality or that I can at least get replacement magnets if needed.4

Very easy to installCynthiaLove these Roman shades. Very easy to install. I used 2 nails. Goes up and down with ease. The only dislike is the material is rather thin. I wasn’t looking for black out blinds, but they could be a bit thicker, not sure how much they block.4

Story

Our take on polyester

Polyester is a durable, wrinkle-resistant and easy-care material that is ideal for many home furnishing products like rugs, pillows, quilts and cushions. The downside to virgin polyester is that it is made from oil, coal or natural gas. This means that when we use virgin polyester, we are exhausting the planet’s natural resources. Our response to this, is to replace all virgin polyester with recycled in our products. In 2020, we achieved the milestone of replacing 79% of the virgin polyester used in IKEA textile products and will accelerate the transformation towards the aim of only using recycled polyester throughout the product range where polyester is used.

Virgin vs recycled polyester

Originally, all polyester was made from oil-based raw materials which are not renewable but we are switching to only using recycled polyester. The good thing is that polyester can be recycled over and over, without negatively affecting the quality of our products. When we make products from recycled polyester, we give a second life to material that is not biodegradable and reduce the amount that may otherwise end up in landfill or the ocean. Instead, PET and other sources of polyester are used to make textiles, storage boxes, kitchen fronts and even lamps. Recycled polyester is just as good as virgin polyester in terms of looks, quality and function, and produces about 50% less in CO2 emissions. And the material is just as clean and safe in every way.

Some challenges with recycled polyester

Recycled polyester makes us less dependent on oil. The amount we convert, is equal to the amount of virgin fossil fuel we eliminate from our polyester raw material (this excludes potential dyeing and other post recycled polyester production treatments). With some exceptions, the challenge is not the conversion of polyester into recycled itself, but to make it available to everyone by keeping it affordable. Buying low environmental impact products often comes with a higher price tag. We want to change that by working to make recycled polyester products more affordable and accessible to the many people.

Only recycled polyester

IKEA is committed to end the dependency on virgin fossil materials and only use renewable or recycled materials by 2030. We are accelerating this movement for polyester in our range and aim to replace all virgin polyester in our textile products with recycled. In 2020, IKEA replaced 79% of the virgin polyester used in IKEA textile products with recycled polyester. In volume, this means we converted 130,000 metric tonnes of recycled polyester, and saved 200,000 tonnes of virign polyester. We haven’t reached our 100% goal yet, but we have come far and overcome many obstacles on the way. These volumes make us a leader in converting to recycled polyester and we hope that our decisions can inspire and motivate whole industries to change.

Responsible sourcing

At IKEA, we demand that all recycled polyester used in IKEA products shall come from recyclers that are compliant with the Global Recycled Standard and traceability is secured to the IKEA product through requirements toward the IKEA Suppliers. By only using recycled polyester that meets the Global Recycled Standards we manage to secure social, environmental and chemical practices at the recycler’s production. We believe that the GRS standard is the best standard on the market today. We work with our partners and textile organisations such as Textile Exchange to further improve standards on recycled materials, including traceability of material beyond the recycling units.
