PAT OLIPHANT - CARTOON SIGNED - HFSID 215367
Price: $120.00
PAT OLIPHANT
1977 cartoon on the Camp David Accords signed by Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Pat
Oliphant with his "Best wishes"
Cartoon signed "For Selwyn C. Gamble/Best wishes from/Pat Oliphant". B/w, 8¼x5½ overall,
7¼x4 image, one surface. ©1977 Washington Star. This cartoon first appeared in Oliphant's
home paper, the Denver Post, in 1971. Award-winning political cartoonist Oliphant, born in
1934, has won both the Pulitzer Prize and the National Cartoonist Society's Reuben
Award - its Cartoonist of the Year award - for his influential and widely published
cartoons, which have been collected by the Library of Congress and placed on display in
the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D. C. Oliphant, who has been cartooning
since 1950, blends the wit and detail characteristic of British cartoons (Oliphant is from
Australia) with the blunter and sparser style of American cartoons. Non-art school students,
though, will probably recognize Oliphant's work because of Punk, a penguin-like bird that
shows up in all of his cartoons with his own sarcastic comments. Lightly soiled and bowed.
Cartoon is lightly discolored near top edge. Cut off-center. Otherwise in fine condition.
