Somewhere out there, somebody dreams of being a French diplomat or government official, high ranking enough to warrant not just a government car but a rather nice one and a driver too, transferring to somebody else the laborious task of negotiating French roadways while sitting in the posh back seat negotiating French bureaucracy. It certainly sounds ideal. And for that person with that most likely unique fantasy, this 1988 Citroen CX Prestige Turbo 2, formerly owned by the French government, recently came up for sale on Hemmings.com. In addition to its provenance, the CX has also been gone through by Citroen experts willing to take on the deep maintenance tasks most average restorers probably wouldn't bother with, leaving the car ready for those diplomat dreams. From the seller's description:

She was owned by the French government and was first registered on 6-3-88 in Department 13.  i.e. Department Bouches-du-Rhone which includes the cities of Avignon, Aix en Provence and Marseilles.  The warm dry climate down there has been good for the preservation this beautiful car.  She is a very clean and rust-free.

The government sold the car to a Citroen collector in 2006, by which time she had gone about 100'000 km.  i.e. time for the big maintenance job!  The work included a completely new exhaust system, new suspension spheres, master brake sphere, main accumulator, mayor brake service, front wheel bearings, front end bushings, fuel injectors, fuel pump, ignition coils etc.  At 130'000 km she received another major service by Citroen.  After a proper PPI and purchase, the car was transported to a well-known Citroen CX specialists’ garage in the Netherlands for a thorough evaluation and service.  The request was to go over the car with a fine-toothed comb, and make any repairs necessary.  The object was to get the car thoroughly sorted out for reliability and peace of mind for the foreseeable future.  They fixed a few minor odds and ends on the body and interior.  The main work was done on the engine/transmission, as the clutch was ready to be replaced.  This is a bit of a job on a CX, engine and transmission have to come out.  Because the cam shaft runs from the engine through the transmission it makes sense to replace all appropriate seals and bearings along the way.  At the same time the water hoses, thermostat etc were replaced.  The engine received a major tune-up and all fluids and filters were changed.  The front tires were replaced with the correct Michelin TRX 220/55/93.  Please note, the car is equipped with a 5-speed manual and AC.  Three key sets, and the owner’s manual are included. The car is in truly excellent condition, everything works like it should.

1958 Pontiac Bonneville Sport Coupe, front quarter

For 1958, all-new styling at every General Motors passenger-car division ushered in big changes, just as the corporation was celebrating its 50th anniversary. It was also the final year with Harley Earl at the helm of GM design. Though the new models were longer and lower in proportion than in previous years, Earl’s signature use of excessive chrome remained unabated. That brightwork continued a trend that had dominated automotive design throughout the Fifties. For 1958, it worked seamlessly with those new designs that presented a broad departure from previous years.

Currently listed on Hemmings Auctions are a pair of faithfully restored hardtop coupes from the GM catalog from that momentous year. With wide chrome grilles surrounding four headlamps and copious brightwork including side trim the length of the body, this 1958 Chevrolet Impala Sport Coupe and 1958 Pontiac Bonneville Sport Coupe both handsomely display the heavily Earl-influenced styling that made headlines for GM.

You Could Own This Fire Damaged Ferrari 246 GT Dino for $129,500

A 1972 Ferrari 246 GT Dino fire survivor is listed for sale online, and it could be the cheapest Ferrari Dino to hit the market in a long while. Would you pick it or kick it?

The hood, which still opens to reveal a 2.4-liter V-6 engine that looks to be salvageable, sports a gaping hole where the flames ate through the steel. The tail and rear quarter panels reflect the front ends condition, and surface rust covers the entire car. Everything that the fire could melt away is gone, including the interior. At one time, the sports car was beautifully upholstered with tan leather and coated with Marrone Colorado brown paint. Now the brown paint is replaced by surface rust covering most of the car. It reportedly was all-original before the fire.
