Home grown organically in the UK of this fully hardy clump forming perennial from the UK, Western, Central and Southern Europe, Southwest Western Asia and Northwestern Africa.
It is a great plant for naturalising, adding to prairie or meadow type plantings, Mediterranean, cottage gardens, rockeries, coastal gardens etc. It does well in drier well drained sites in full sun at the front of the border, but is quite tolerant of other soil types and moisture. It grows to around 3' (90cm) high and 18'' (45cm) across, forming a neat evergreen rosette with pairs of attractive toothed leaflets. It forms unusual knobbly clusters of crimson flowers, flowering from early summer through to autumn, and are followed by burred fruit. The flowers are an excellent unusual addition to floral arrangements. Great for Pollinators! Young Salad Burnet leaves are used as an ingredient in both summer drinks, salads, dressings, and sauces having a flavor described as "mildly cucumber, a bit tart, a little hot" and is considered interchangeable with mint leaves in some recipes, depending on the intended effect. Typically, the youngest leaves are used, as they tend to become bitter as they age.
