Matt Lucas has shut down rumours that he and David Walliams are rebooting Little Britain.

It was previously reported by The Sun that Lucas had teased a revival that would "be different in many ways" from the original show and include "diverse talent".

However, the former Great British Bake Off co-host has now set the record straight on X/Twitter, explaining that he was referring to an entirely new project.

"Sorry to disappoint you (or delight you) but the stories in the papers about me and David writing a new series of Little Britain are not true. We're working on a different idea," he wrote.

Further elaborating on the new project during his previous interview with The Sun, Lucas said: "We are talking about how we can have diverse talent on screen and in the writers' room and conceive it as something which is just not about me and David playing absolutely everyone.

"That is something we should have done but didn't do back then."

The BBC sketch show, which originally aired between 2003 and 2006, has faced criticism in the past for its stereotypical characters, as well as the actors' use of blackface.

Addressing the criticism, Lucas added: "I accept people feel very differently from others and I respect everyone’s opinion from wherever they come from on this subject. I see things differently now to how we did. Things have changed and I respect that."

Lucas previously admitted that he regrets some of the jokes and characters featured in Little Britain, saying that the show would be very different if it were made today.

"If I could go back and do Little Britain again, I wouldn't make those jokes about transvestites. I wouldn't play Black characters. Basically, I wouldn't make that show now. It would upset people," he said.
