Hot Pockets Recall: Nearly 763,000 Pounds of Pepperoni Sandwiches Could Be Contaminated With Glass and Plastic

Nestlé Prepared Foods is recalling 762,615 pounds of pepperoni Hot Pocket sandwiches, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced Friday, January 15.

The recall specifically affects 54-ounce Hot Pocket Brand Sandwiches - Garlic Buttery Crust Pepperoni Pizza Value Packs (12 count). The recall was initiated due to the potential for glass and hard plastic contamination.

FSIS and Nestlé reported four consumer complaints of extraneous materials in the not-ready-to-eat frozen foods. One consumer reported a minor oral injury. This prompted a Class I recall from the USDA, which means the contamination creates "a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death." Nestlé added that the materials could "pose a choking or laceration risk."

The recalled products were manufactured November 13 through 16, 2020 and were shipped to retailers nationwide and in Puerto Rico. The products' best-by date is February 2022. Lot codes are 0318544624, 0319544614, 0320544614, and 0321544614, and the establishment number is EST. 7721A.

This recall of the Garlic Buttery Crust Pepperoni Pizza Hot Pockets does not include packages of 2, 5, or 17 sandwiches, and it doesn't include all packages of the pepperoni sandwiches.

FSIS advises consumers to check freezers for the recalled foods, and if you have any, throw them away, or return them to the place of purchase.
