We're partial, we know, but once you share your love with a Shih Tzu, you don't usually want any other type of dog. Our dogs are specifically bred for temperament and sweetness. Nothing compares to a sweet kiss and a wagging tail to greet you when you come home from work.
Over the past 11 years, we've carefully selected mothers devoted to the care of their pups for the first few months of their lives. Our dads help produce some striking features in our puppies.
Our Shih Tzu Puppies tend to be a bit bigger than the breed standard of 9-16 pounds. Our males approach 20 pounds and females in the 11 - 15 pound range. We don't try for Imperial Shih Tzus, so finding an "Imperial Shih Tzu" from us will very rarely happen.
Our original parents, Buddy and Abby are still with us and doing well. Abby had her last litter in 2015 and Daddy Bud is now retired from producing puppies.
All of our adult dogs coexist relatively peacefully and enjoy their time together, especially playtime. Depending on the weather, we get a good deal of time outdoors from 3-4 hours daily. In Spring and fall, we tend to get even more time outside. We all cozy up together at night in an air-conditioned and heated room.
Because of the number of dogs, we are always open-feed dog kibble available. Our dogs are on a regular current veterinary schedule focusing on the main treatments including rabies and Lyme.
Breeding mothers are rested and retired at about age six or seven.
That little chrysanthemum face! Those big dark eyes are looking up at you with their sweet disposition! Originally bred for Chinese royalty, the little 'Lion Dog' is the happiest being your companion. Solid for dogs their size and little mischief makers, they make the best friends and are incredibly loyal. Their coat, which comes in lots of colors and textures, can be a high-maintenance task, with daily brushing and regular trips to the groomer to keep it tidy. While fun they can have a stubborn streak. You won't be mad at them long as they charm their way back to your heart!

We are near Pittsburgh, PA, but we frequently travel through Northern Virginia, West Virginia, to Hampton Roads, VA. Once the puppies are born, we plan our trips. Frederick MD for folks from DC; Winchester VA for people along the Blue Ridge; and Portsmouth VA for Hampton Roads and Eastern North Carolina. Since we don't drive in the DC metro area, we use routes like Route 17 through Fredricksburg and I95 south through Richmond. We have gone as far as Elizabeth City, NC, and Canton, OH to meet new furbaby parents. We can manage to find a mutually agreeable meeting place if you live outside those areas.
To have the words ON HOLD placed for your puppy, a deposit of $100 is required. Once your puppy has had their checkup and first shots at the vet, we require a $300 deposit to secure your puppy. Occasionally, people change their minds at the last minute, for whatever reason, and we are able to deal with that fairly. Your deposit holds your puppy until they are rehomed with you and doesn't make the puppy available to others. Our job is to find loving homes for our pups and rehome them within an appropriate time frame so they can bond well with their new families.
A CashApp deposit is the most convenient way to send a deposit, especially if you won't see your baby before pickup/delivery. The best and most preferred payment method is cash at pickup/delivery. There have been issues with checks in the past. We do not accept PayPal any longer.
This is a good question, but one that doesn't get asked frequently. The short answer is - No. We've been breeding puppies for over 12 years and have been successful doing so and, we credit our higher than usual success rate to not allowing visitors in our facilities.
Over the years, we've developed good working relationships with other breeders who have mixed opinions on this question. After consulting with vets and other breeders, our main takeaway is that while no one intentionally brings in outside canine diseases, the potential is too great to allow visitors to tour. We take great care in providing a clean, warm, and sanitary place to raise puppies. You can meet mothers and fathers if you wish.
The recent Michigan parvovirus outbreak proves that is too unsafe for us to allow visitors. Plenty of fine breeders out there might have different policies about this; we choose to keep our facilities closed to avoid any unnecessary risk.
We're open to traveling on a day trip of about 400 miles round trip. We don't drive into heavy metropolitan areas - DC, NYC, Philadelphia and will be happy to meet you outside of those areas where traffic is not so congested. On trips to Hampton Roads, I have a friend who is generous enough to allow us to spend the night to rehome puppies in North Carolina and Richmond before returning to Pennsylvania. Since this economy has hit us all differently, my time frames for travel have become a little tighter and more directed and scheduled many more weeks in advance, with less ability to pick up and go at a moment's notice..
Our babies are adopted quickly, so reach out to reserve your furever friend or to ask any questions.

We are pleased to welcome you to our light blog! We try to keep things simple and inform our subscribers and visitors when our puppies have reached milestones, such as when they go to the vet or when they have found their forever home. Our posts contain pictures and follow our babies' journeys, ultimately finding loving homes.
