The Bellissimo Files Presents: Movies & Me

Today, I’m taking a slight deviation from the Movies and Me podcast to bring you a special short episode. I’m going from the big screen to the small screen because recently I got to chat to one of the stars of Jack Ryan, Wendell Pierce, who plays James Greer.

Before this we came to love him as Bunk in The Wire, and, Robert Zane, Rachel’s dad (Meghan Markle) on Suits. I loved him in all of those roles so I was thrilled to get to chat to Wendell about what he has loved most about being a part of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan; what acting means to him; and of course we couldn’t not talk about The Wire.

Baz Luhrman is one of my all time favourite film makers. Anytime I watch one of his films I walk away in awe and wonder. He is back with his latest masterpiece, Elvis.

Actress Lashana Lynch made her film debut in 2012's Fast Girls. Since then she has gone on to feature in a few TV shows and had a standout performance in Captain Marvel, as Maria Rambeau.

Lashana is now making history with her performance in the 25th Bond film, No Time To Die. In playing a 00 Agent, she becomes the first black woman to take on a 00 title in a Bond film.

James is back with his gorgeous new track, "Gone".  It was so cool to have the chance to talk to him about the song and how his new album is about becoming at peace with the reality of life.  He also shares why imposter syndrome is something he is trying to get rid of; how he is trying to find the beauty in amongst all of the chaos; and why possibilities seem limitless again.

Sinead Burke is a powerhouse. She has used her passion, drive and kindness to make some of her wildest dreams come true. 

Sinead has a successful podcast series ("As Me with Sinead"); has appeared on the cover of British Vogue; has had some of the biggest fashion houses design for her; attended the MET Ball; advised people like President Michael D. Higgins; and the list goes on and on.

While these achievements are impressive, what is most impressive is that Sinead in not only advocating for herself, but, she is also amplifying other people's voices and making sure we're all seen and able to shine bright. One of the most recent ways she has done this is with her book, "Break The Mould".

We spoke about how she broke the mould; her many firsts; making a point to see who is not in the room and getting them in there; and so much more.

Noah Reid stole all of our hearts in "Schitt's Creek" when, as "Patrick", he serenaded David (Dan Levy), with "Simply The Best".  

Noah has now released his second album, Gemini.  

We caught up to talk about releasing an album during a pandemic, memorable Schitt's Creek moments, Emmys celebrations and more.

Andrew Fitzsimons got his start in hairdressing because he wanted a summer job, so his mum got him one at a local salon. After  just one summer, the then 13 year old was hooked and decided this was the career for him. He left school, learnt the trade and then at 17 made his way to Paris where he worked on editorials and fashion shows. At 21, he flew  to New York where fashion met celebrities and now he is the hair stylist to some of the biggest names in the world, including the Kardashian/Jenner family, Bella Hadid and Hailey Bieber to name but a few. But things have gotten even bigger for him, as this week, he has released his own hair care range in collaboration with Penneys, Andrew Fitzsimons x Primark.

One of the most powerful films you will see is Just Mercy, starring Michael B Jordan and Jamie Foxx.

It is based on the incredible true story of world renowned civil rights defence lawyer Bryan Stevenson. He works to free wrongly condemned death row prisoners.

Bryan shared that when he was first approached about the movie, he was sceptical but when he saw that everyone involved wanted to tell the real story – he was on board with it.

When Bryan was giving Michael B Jordan notes on how to play him, he told him the only place he needs to not be authentic is in losing his Creed and Black Panther abs.

In order to do his work, Brian faced a lot of resistance, degradation, and threats, yet he continued because his work is literally saving men’s lives.

I only discovered "Schitt's Creek" at the beginning of 2019. In three weeks I had binged all 5 series on Netflix so I was thrilled when I got the chance to talk to the fabulous Annie Murphy (Alexis Rose).

Before Annie landed the role of Alexis, life was tough. Her apartment had burned down; she hadn’t had an acting job in 2 years; and only had $200 left in her bank account. She shares with me how she managed to keep going, how the show has changed her life and what part of Alexis she will take with her.
