Feather, Clematis and A Welsh Dragon

A delicate white feather became caught on the seed pods of a Crocosmia.

Lady Betty Balfour Clematis is one of my favourites. It is flowering rather early this year as it is supposed to bloom in September.

A number of The Ingleheart Singers have been to meet the two Welsh choirs who are visiting us from Port Talbot for our Grand Annual Concert tomorrow. As I was leaving the car park of their hotel,  I noticed the sunset reflection in their coach window above the magnificent Welsh Dragon.

Lunch Out, Frog and Stamens

It has been just the most beautiful Autumn day with little wind, bright sunshine and temperatures in the 20s. We went out for lunch and this was the view from The Blue Bar at Porthtowan.

We walked a little way up the cliff path and met some choir friends which was lovely.

Sitting and soaking up some more sunshine in the garden,I heard a strange noise and caught some movement out of the corner of my eye. A Common Frog had just landed in our little walled garden.

The Lady Betty Balfour Clematis is almost over and its stamens are very beautiful.

Knitting, Clematis and Friendship

A friend’s Mum has joined me in knitting tiny jumpers and beanie hats for the babies in Tanzania. She has posted them off to KnitzTanzania already and sent me a photo. Aren’t they beautiful?

My favourite September Clematis, Lady Betty Balfour, has crept all the way along the green and white Pittosporum hedge and is tumbling down in a beautiful purple cascade.

Sue-next-door called in this afternoon for a catch up over a cuppa and that was lovely. Another lifting of spirits! Feeling better day by day now.

Passion Flowers, Clematis and A Butterfly

1   It’s November 2nd and we still have colour in the garden. There are 17 blossoms on the Passiflora caerulea!

2    Lady Betty Balfour has six or seven flowers still as they scramble up through a fir tree.

3    A beautiful though slightly scruffy butterfly landed on our window cill this morning, rested for several minutes and then fluttered away.

New Patio, Clematis and Summer Solstice Poem

1   Our Lady Betty Balfour Clematis, which is supposed to flower in September, has given us two beautiful blooms already.

2    We have had a beautiful new slate terrace laid very expertly and are delighted with it. Now we just have to re-plant up the wall and the border.

3   We are going out this evening to celebrate the Summer Solstice with our friends, N,G&T, who have the new woodland. I found this beautiful poem by Roselle Angwin which I really like and which suits tonight just perfectly.  Tonight we will be singing and raising hope, friendship and love.

poem for the summer solstice

Lanes on the cusp of honeysuckle and dog-rose,
ash and oak in their full clothes.

Here where this damselfly alights
on the solar globe of the ox-eye daisy,
where the spells that make rain and wind
and bird-tracks pleach the air –

again and again we sing the sun back up,
spin summer-short moonlight into our hair;
again and again in this circle of days and nights
against loss, decay, death, we raise hope, friendship, love.

Brief lives; but the stuff of which we’re made
is starfire and water – everything holds our trace.
