Obituary of Lillian Mae HANSEN (nee Newman)

October 4, 1924 – Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan
June 17, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Lillian Hansen of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2021, at the age of 96 years. 

Lillian was born in Moose Jaw, SK on October 4, 1924. She moved to Vancouver, B.C. in 1967 and then to Calgary in 1987. Lillian’s second marriage was to Andrew Hansen in 1974.

She enjoyed baking, gardening and knitting and loved entering her works in the Millarville Fair every year. Over the years she won many awards in numerous categories and delighted in opening the envelopes with prizes ranging from $2.00 to $5.00. During their centennial she won a grand prize crystal vase and a cheque for $100.00 (which she proudly donated back to the Fair).

Lillian had a soft spot in her heart for dogs and cared for many of them over her life. The last two, Kaylee and King, were her loyal companions in her latter years.

She and Andy would take driving trips to the US to visit distant relatives and regularly travelled to Vancouver Island to visit Andy’s family and to various cities to visit her son Russ and family.

Lillian is survived by her son Russ (wife Lexie) and grandsons, Aaron (Alexis), Michael (Julie) and Shaun (Tracy). She also has two stepdaughters, Gail and Robyn; and two stepsons, Steve and Ken living on Vancouver Island. She has numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lillian is also survived by her niece Dorothy Ball (Art) and their family of Spruce Grove, AB. 

Lillian was predeceased by her husband Andrew, her parents Harry and Edith Newman; along with sisters, Grace, Blanche, Evelyn and Ivy; and brothers, James and Fred along with their spouses.
