A Colorful New Southern Mexican Restaurant Called Tazón Opens in Fullerton

Fullerton debuted a new bowl-centric Mexican restaurant in early December. Tazón Cocina Mexicana’s menu draws some parallels to the popular organic Mexican chain, Tocaya Organica, but the owners put some extra touches on Tazón’s distinctly Southern Mexican menu. And in Southern California’s very crowded Mexican fast-casual field, those touches are what it takes to stand out.

Tazón means bowl in Spanish and makes its tortillas from organic heirloom corn masa. The bowls are full of familiar and sometimes traditional ingredients, including one with mole verde and chicken, cochinita pibil, short ribs, and another with chicken tinga. The restaurant offers aguas frescas, Mexican coffee, along with beers, margaritas, and micheladas to drink.

As the adjacent Pedro’s Tacos recently closed, Tazón’s timing is impeccable. Partners Rabih Sater, and brothers Julian and Luis Martinez aren’t new to restaurants, as the brothers have deep roots in the Yucatan, but also have experience with fine dining in Las Vegas. Rabih Sater owns and operates specialty coffee roasting company Espresso Republic Coffee in Chino, and plus Dripp coffee bars throughout Orange County.

Hours are Sunday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. until 10 p.m., and Friday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. until midnight. Tazón’s kitchen stops preparing food one hour before closing time.
