PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Neil Young fans are getting an early Christmas gift this year.

Tickets went on sale Wednesday for the upcoming docufilm "Neil Young: Harvest Time," to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of his seminal album.

The film hits theaters Dec. 1 with select encores on Dec. 4.

The never-before-seen footage, which was shot between January and September 1971, shows Young and his band during the creation of the album "Harvest," showing the "Harvest Barn" sessions at Young's Broken Arrow Ranch in Northern California. The ranch would be serve as a fertile creative space for Young, who said during his Live at Massey Hall 1971 album that he wrote the song "Old Man" about the foreman that came with his ranch when he bought it in 1970.

"There is this old man that lives on it. He came with the place when I bought it," Young said to the Massey Hall audience. "Ranches have a foreman that stays with the cows no matter who owns it. He's about 70 years old or something like that. So I wrote this song for him."

James Taylor played six-string banjo on the song, as well as contributing vocals, along with Linda Ronstadt. Other guests on the album include Young's bandmates in CSN&Y - David Crosby, Graham Nash and Stephen Stills.

"Old Man" is just one of the hit songs that came from "Harvest." One of Young's best known songs is "Heart of Gold," which hit No. 1 on the Billboard Charts back in 1972. In fact, on Apr. 8, 1972, Young had the No. 1 song and album in the country. "Harvest" would go on to the best selling album for 1972, selling more than 4 million albums in the United States and over 8 million copies worldwide.

The exclusive cinema event begins with a personal introduction from Young about the film and album.

The film coincides with the release of the 50th Anniversary Edition Box Sets on vinyl and CD of the beloved Harvest album. The collection boasts the original album, three studio outtakes on CD/7” vinyl, an unreleased live 1971 BBC solo performance on CD/LP and DVD. Also included in the box sets is a hardbound book and fold-out poster. The vinyl box sets include a lithograph print.
