executive director’s welcome WELCOME TO THE CAPITOL CENTER FOR THE

We are proud to stake our claim as the theatre with the most eclectic programming in New Hampshire! Whether you are here for a Broadway musical, a rock concert, or a National Theatre broadcast we want you to have a wonderful experience. With the support of individual donors, the Capitol Center has recently invested in new systems and equipment focused on improving our customers’ experience. Our web site has been redesigned to be more mobile device friendly, allowing tickets to be scanned from your phone. In addition, you’ll find that our lobby bar lines will move more quickly, thanks to the addition of our new “Bottoms Up” beer tap system and a new bar in the balcony hallway. ARTS.

“DISCOVER WONDERFUL NEW TALENT AND BE CHALLENGED TO SEE THE WORLD FROM A FRESH PERSPECTIVE.”

Our 22nd Season is packed with concerts, comedy, and cultural programming not only in the 1300-seat Chubb Theatre, but in our Governor’s Hall Spotlight Café, and in the intimate drawing rooms of the historic Kimball House. I encourage you to take a chance on an artist or program that is unfamiliar to you. I promise you will discover wonderful new talent and be challenged to see the world from a fresh perspective.

In addition to being bold and daring with your program selections, please stay in touch with us. Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest. Subscribe to our weekly e-newsletter. Take our audience survey. Become a supporting member. Invite your friends to a show. Join us as a volunteer. Finally, don’t be shy. At most shows, you will find me and other key CCA staff in the lobby before the show and at intermission. I always want to learn more about your experience here at the CCA, so step up and introduce yourself. We really enjoying getting to know folks who come to EXPERIENCE IT LIVE!

about us is the largest and most eclectic performing arts center in central New Hampshire. We are a national-caliber live

The nonprofit Capitol Center for the Arts

entertainment venue. We bring the excitement of highquality theater, music, dance, comedy, opera, and family programming to the Capital region. Not only are we a hub for the community, but fans travel from all over New England to attend performances here. The Capitol Center first opened in 1927 as the Capitol Theatre, a prime stop on the Vaudeville circuit. In our Chubb Theatre, you can still see pieces of the original stenciling from when the theater was built. Plaques near each exposed section of stenciling explain their origins. The building later became Concord’s premier movie house and concert hall. After closing in 1989, the building underwent a multi-million dollar renovation / modernization and reopened in 1995 as the Capitol Center for the Arts. Today, the Capitol Center is home to: n the 1304-seat Chubb Theatre;

the Governor’s Hall first-floor ballroom, which doubles as the Spotlight Café, an intimate venue offering audiences the chance to see up-and-coming artists and regional/ local performers; and n our historic and stately Kimball House mansion, which also serves as our administrative office space. n

We love showing off our historic venue. To arrange a tour, please call (603) 225-1111, ext. 114.

patron services We want your experience here to be memorable. For your convenience: A house manager is on duty for each performance and is ultimately responsible for making our patrons feel safe, comfortable, and happy. The house manager oversees our volunteer ushers, who can assist you with seating, programs, safety, and comfort. If you require any assistance during the show, please contact the nearest usher. If you are interested in becoming an usher, sign up online at ccanh.com, call (603) 225-1111, ext. 115, fill out the card at the box office, or ask an usher or House Manager at any performance. Parking is available nearby at the Capital

Commons garage (entrance on Storrs St.) and an outdoor lot one block north of the CCA on S State St. On-street parking is free after 5 p.m. Handicap-accessible spaces with curb cuts are located in front of the theater. Please be considerate to our neighbors and do not park in posted lots or in front of driveways: your car may be towed.

Restrooms are located in the main lobby

and balcony lobby.

Vending machines and an ATM are

located in the vestibule next to the box office.

Special seating accommodations are available throughout the theater.

These should be requested at the time of your ticket purchase. If, after arriving at your seat, you require additional accommodation, pelase notify the nearest usher for assistance.

Accessing our facilities: The box

office vestibule, main lobby (including bathrooms), and orchestra level, are wheelchairaccessible. Ushers may be available at the front walkway to assist patrons being dropped of in front of the building. We also have an elevator available to help patrons get to the orchestra level from the main lobby without having to climb stairs. Please allow extra time to let us best assist you. We don’t want you to miss anything! Enhanced listening devices are available. Please inquire at the box office. A courtesy phone is located in the

vestibule to the left of the stair tower.

Lose something at a show? A lost and found is located at our box office for any items we find while cleaning the theatre or turned in by another patron. Refreshments are available for purchase

at most performances during intermission in the lobby or in The Governor’s Hall. You may bring the many of the items you purchase from us right to your seats. However, for safety reasons, glass bottles are not allowed inside the theater. Also, outside food and drink are not permitted. Dining: There are many fine restaurants

within walking distance of the Capitol Center. Many support us through our Restaurant Sponsor program and we encourage you to patronize them. See the Dining Guide in the back of this Playbill for details. 11

in consideration of others Please help us create exquisite experiences for others too:

CHILDREN Please use discretion regarding young children’s ability to sit quietly and enjoy a show. Tickets are required for all patrons at all performances, including babes in arms, unless expressly stated otherwise (such as certain family and children’s performances). SMOKING Smoking is not allowed anywhere inside the CCA. There are ashtrays outside the front entrance. Please be courteous and discard cigarette butt in the nearest recepticle. CAMERAS AND RECORDING DEVICES Non-professional, non-flash,still photography is permitted unless posted or stated otherwise. Professional cameras and recording /broadcasting of any kind (including video, Facebook Live, and similar apps) is prohibited without express prior written permission from both the performers and the CCA. 12

BEEPING & RINGING ITEMS Audible cell phones, watches, and other electronic devices must be turned off during the show to avoid distracting performers and other patrons. If you must use such devices during the performance, please do so in our lobby or vestibule. CONCERT SEATING POLICY We recognize that sometimes patrons do not always agree on the best way to experience concerts at the CCA. During certain performances, portions of our orchestra and balcony will be seated only (even if the artist encourages people to do otherwise). In all other areas, patrons may stand and dance in front of their seats. Our staff and security will not ask them to sit down unless the patrons are standing/dancing ON their seats, in the aisles, too close to the stage, and/or engaging in other clearly disruptive behavior. This policy will not apply to general admission shows and any shows not listing a designated sitting area.

MARK BOGACZ PHOTOGRAPHY

LATE ARRIVALS Each show has its own policy for late seating to ensure the best possible experience for all patrons and we are contractually obligated to abide with these policies. If you arrive after the show begins, you will not be seated until a suitable break, and then at the discretion of the CCA and artists. No refunds will be given as a result of late arrivals.

frequently-asked questions BOX OFFICE/TICKET SALES When is your box office open? Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 11am6pm. Between Labor Day and Memorial Day, it is also open on Saturdays from 11am - 2pm. It opens one hour before each show for ticket sales exclusively to that performance and closes one half-hour after that show begins. Can I buy tickets for another performance while I’m at the CCA to see a show? No. At performance time, our box office is staffed to quickly and efficiently serve patrons attending that particular show. We cannot sell tickets to other shows during this time. What if I’m a member and can’t use my tickets? One of the benefits of CCA membership is ticket insurance. Our members may exchange tickets they cannot use for credit towards future performances by returning them to the Box Office at least 24 hours in advance of the performance. What can I do with my unused tickets if I am not a member? For sold-out shows, we will attempt to resell unused tickets. If we can resell the tickets, a refund will be issued. All service fees are nonrefundable What happens if the show is cancelled? Performances occasionally cancel, for a number of reasons. If this happens, we will make every effort to notify you beforehand. If you purchased your tickets by credit card, your account will be credited. If you purchased your tickets with cash

or a check, you will be mailed a check. What if I can’t attend a performance because of the weather? If the show goes on as scheduled, we are contractually obligated to pay the performers. Therefore, we do not offer weather-related refunds. Why is there a processing fee? A processing fee applies for each ticket purchased online or by phone to offset costs of our ticketing system which allows patrons to choose their own seats when ordering by phone or online. There is no fee for tickets purchased at our Box Office. Does my infant need a ticket if she is going to sit in my lap during a performance? Yes. Each and every person attending a performance must have a ticket, including babes in arms, unless otherwise stated. This allows us to keep track of the number of people at a particular event in case of emergency. I received my tickets for seats 14, 16, and 18. Are they together? Yes. Seats on the right side of the theatre are even-numbered and those on the left are oddnumbered. Seats in the center are numbered consecutively. Do you have rush seats/discounts? We do not offer rush seats. Occasionally, we may offer promotional discounts. How do I get tickets to Gile Series performances and other free shows? Tickets for free CCA performances are generally available online, by phone, and at our Box 15

frequently-asked questions Office. Tickets for Gile Series shows are available approximately one month prior to the performance. PROGRAMMING AND MARKETING Where can I find a complete and up-todate list of upcoming shows? In the display rack to the left of our box office and on our web site at CCANH.com. Join our E-Mail Club and have show information sent to you on a regular basis! Who decides which shows will be booked? Most shows are booked by our Programming Department. However, others are presented by outside promoters and other people/organizations who rent our theatre. Do you take artist suggestions? Absolutely! E-mail them to friends@ccanh.com. AT THE SHOW (also see “In Consideration of Others” at p. 12.) When does the lobby open for a show? At what time is seating? For Chubb Theatre (“mainstage”) performances, it opens one hour before - and seating begins 30 minutes before - performance time. Spotlight Café seating usually begins one hour prior to the performance. For Gile Concert Series events, seating begins 45 minutes prior to the show. Why is the sound so loud / soft? Our state-of-the-art sound system is calibrated to provide appropriate sound levels to all areas of the theater. Also, performing artists and their 16

staff often have specific requirements as to how their shows should sound. We work closely with them to ensure that sound levels are appropriate. However, from time to time, some patrons may find the levels either too loud or too soft for their personal taste. We have free personal earplugs available. We also have a listening enhancement system provided for your use at no charge. Why is it so hot / cold inside the theatre? Regulating the temperature of a building filled with as many as 1,300 people is tricky, since all those bodies raise the air temperature by several degrees. If you find it cool when you enter the building, you can expect the temperature to rise as the theatre fills. Please notify an usher if you believe the building is too warm or too cool. I’m sitting behind a large wheelchair and can’t see the show. Can I switch seats? We recognize that some motorized wheelchairs may block the view of patrons sitting in the next row. Please see an usher for assistance. Where do I put my coat? We do not have a coat check and cannot assume responsibility for any unattended items. Please do not drape coats over the balcony rails. MEMBERSHIP/DONOR RELATIONS (see also member/sponsor information at the back of this playbill) Why do you ask for money beyond ticket costs? Ticket revenue covers only about 70 percent of our expenses, so we rely heavily on donations from
