Kagurabachi is a new manga series by Takeru Hokazono that debuted in Shonen Jump with its first chapter on September 17. The series is already officially available to read in English, and reception from fans is very positive.

Kagurabachi's story takes place in 1950s Japan, but in a different world. It revolves around a young man named Chihiro. He's determined to confront a dangerous yakuza group with supernatural abilities. Chihiro, who is the son of a skilled swordsmith, wields a powerful sword and hunts down sorcerers empowering the yakuza. The core theme of the story is revenge, triggered by a tragic event on a “dark day soaked in blood.”

The manga got a lot of hype before its release, and the entire chapter was leaked online too.

Fans are loving the manga and heaping praise on it, for its artstyle, its badass and deadpan dialogue delivery of the protagonist, and its action scenes.

Some are even including Kagurabachi in the “big three” pillars of shonen series, alongside titans like One Piece and Jujutsu Kaisen:

It's too soon to predict if Kagurabachi will match the popularity of other famous shonen series, but the positive response to the first chapter is encouraging. The manga releases weekly, so we'll have to wait and see if future chapters can maintain the same excitement and engagement.

Kagurabachi is available to read in English on Viz Media's Shonen Jump digital library and Manga Plus.
