Here Are 2023’s Best-Selling Manga in Japan So Far
These manga titles are the most popular in the country.
The latest manga sales figures have been released, revealing the top-selling manga of 2023 so far. As we approach the halfway mark of the year, a new report from Japan shows which manga titles have been the most successful in selling volumes.
The report from Oricon divides manga sales figures in two categories: overall sales by series and individual volume sales. In terms of overall sales, a surprising name has become the front-runner.
Blue Lock is the best-selling manga of 2023, beating Chainsaw Man
Kodansha has secured the top spot with its manga series Blue Lock, which has sold over 8 million copies, making it the highest-selling series of the year thus far. The football manga has even surpassed the popular series Chainsaw Man, which holds the second spot in the list with 4.4 million copies sold.
Taking a closer look at the rest of the list, we see Slam Dunk rising to third place, likely fuelled by the success of its new film, The First Slam Dunk, which released in December 2022. The basketball manga has sold nearly 4.2 million copies this year.
Jujutsu Kaisen claims the fourth spot with 3.7 million copies sold, while the ever-popular One Piece lands just below in fifth place with 3.5 million copies sold.

- Blue Lock – 8 million
- Chainsaw Man – 4.4 million
- Slam Dunk – 4.1 million
- Jujutsu Kaisen – 3.7 million
- One Piece – 3.5 million
Individual manga volume sales in the first half of 2023
Turning our attention to individual volume sales, the mighty One Piece reigns supreme, with volume 105 alone selling a staggering 1.75 million copies. The volume, titled Luffy’s Dream, is the only One Piece volume that has come out this year, having released on March 3, 2023 in Japan.
Jujutsu Kaisen secures second and third place with its volumes 21 and 22, respectively, followed by Spy x Family volume 11 in fourth place. Tokyo Revengers volume 31 rounds off the top five with an impressive 846,297 copies sold to date.
