Robert Pattinson has been brutally honest about his viewpoints on the roles that skyrocketed his career to the top. While fans are familiar with The Batman Star’s distaste for The Twilight Saga, which despite its box office success, was panned critically, he also doesn’t share fond memories of his work in the Harry Potter movies.
Although the Harry Potter movies did put Pattinson on the map, following the enormous success of the franchise, playing the role of Cedric Diggory was a pretty daunting task for The Lighthouse actor.
Robert Pattinson Wasn’t Thrilled Playing the Absurdly Handsome Cedric Diggory
Robert Pattinson‘s Cedric Diggory ended up being a pretty likable character unlike Draco Malfoy, who played a pivotal part in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. However, Pattinson wasn’t quite thrilled about Diggory, following the contrasting nature between him and Diggory. Unlike the magic wizard, he was never the popular kid and didn’t see himself fit to be a leader. Per Robert Pattinson: The Unauthorized Biography, the Good Time Star claimed that tackling the role was “even scarier than meeting Lord Voldemort”.
“In the book, and also in my [character’s] first introduction in the script, it’s like, ‘an absurdly handsome 17-year old,’ and it kind of puts you off a little bit, when you’re trying to act, and you’re [also] trying to get good angles to look good-looking and stuff. It’s really stupid; you’d think I’m really egotistical. But I think that’s the most daunting part about it – it’s much scarier than meeting Lord Voldemort.”
But despite his grievances with Cedric Diggory, it didn’t hold him back from delivering an impeccable performance, which would give his career a massive boost. However, moving forward Pattinson didn’t let the popularity of the Harry Potter franchise define him, as he kept on ascending to the top through delivering acclaimed gems, ultimately landing the role of Batman.
Robert Pattinson Had a Harder Time Dealing With Stardom Than His Co-stars
While Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire pushed Robert Pattinson to stardom, unlike Daniel Radcliffe, Pattinson had a harder time dealing with rising to fame. Considering that Radcliffe was busy filming the first two Potter flicks concurrently, he “had a very gradual easing into the idea of fame”, which wasn’t the case for Pattinson. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Radcliffe said,
“I was in studios filming and kind of unaware that this thing was going massive outside. Whereas Rob, [he] was suddenly the most famous guy in the world. I think that’s a lot harder to deal with.”
But despite The Batman Star’s complaints about Cedric Diggory, he remains one of the most memorable parts of The Goblet of Fire, which fans keep on revisiting.
