This Citroen CX got away, but there are more like it here.
This 1988 Citroen CX Prestige is said to have been imported to the US when new by Malcom Langman of CX Automotive, with whom it reportedly spent 20 years before being sold on in 2009. The car was acquired by the seller in 2016, reportedly from its second owner. Subsequent work included a repaint in silver well as replacement of the hydraulic spheres, refreshment of the braking system, and more. Power is from a 2.5-liter inline-four driving the front wheels through an automatic transmission that was rebuilt in 2016. This CX shows 105k miles and is offered with receipts from previous and current ownership as well as a clean South Carolina title in the seller’s name.
The Prestige rode on a 10″ longer wheelbase than the standard CX to provide increased legroom for rear passengers. This example was repainted in 2016 following rust repairs in the sunroof and trunk lid. The car features a hatchback, rear wheel spats, stainless steel C-pillar trim, and a rubber rear spoiler.
Factory 14″ alloy wheels are mounted with Pirelli P4 tires. The hydropneumatic suspension was refreshed with new hydraulic spheres in 2019, while additional work included replacement of the brake and main accumulators as well as a braking system overhaul. Height settings are selected with a switch in the cockpit as shown in the video above.
The cabin is trimmed in black patterned leather and features power windows and locks, a sunroof, a Blaupunkt cassette player and Dallas SQM 88 gooseneck tuner, and a wired flashlight. The cruise control is inoperable.
A mono-spoke steering wheel frames Jaeger gauges including a six-digit odometer that shows 105k miles, approximately 1,200 of which have been added by the seller.
The transverse-mounted 2.5-liter inline-four sends power to the front wheels through an automatic transmission that was rebuilt in November 2016 along with the alternator. A driving video can be seen below.
