A further object of the invention is to provide an improved sleeping garment of the character indicated which permits the use of supplementary blankets to increase the warmth without exposing the portions adjacent the childs head to the childs face.

Further objects will more particularly appear inthe course "of the following detailed description.

The invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combinations of parts hereinafter more particularly described and claimed.

One sheet of drawings accompanies this specification as part thereof, in which like reference characters indicate like parts throughout.

Figure 1 is a perspective View of the improved sleeping garment;

Figure 2 is a longitudinal cross section through the sleeping garment arranged as it would be on a mattress but with the mattress removed;

Figure 3 is a transverse cross section taken on line 3-4 of Figure 2; and

Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective of one corner of the improved garment applied to a mattress and looked at from below.

A serious problem presented to most parents or those in charge of infants or small children, is that of assuring that they will remain properly covered during the night and at the same time that the childs freedom of movement is not interfered with so as to mar a comfortable sleep.

Various devices have been proposed but for the most part they either interfere unduly with the childs freedom of movement, thus interfering with restful sleep, or they do not provide with reasonable certainty for the child remaining properly covered.

In accordance with the present invention the sleeping garment is made from sheets or sheeting material and in efiect comprises superposed or twin sheets of which the lower sheet I is provided with securing means by means of which it is held in close surface contact with the upper surface of the mattress M.

plerhentaryside wall portions 6, t are secured to its longitudinal marginal edges to extend from the side faces of the mattresa both of'the portions 6 and 7 being connected by mitered scams 8 at the corners and also associated with underlying portions 9 and 1 ii] extending inwardly from the bottom edges of the inattress to encase the marginal portions off-the mattresa thus assuring the smooth fittingof thebottom sheet l with the upper face of the mattress.

The upper sheet 2is secured to the lower sheet l by marginal scams 3 extending from thexfoot end of the lower sheet to a point slightly beyond the mid length point .ofjthe sheet, andthe upper free-portion of the upper sheet2 is foldedtransversely, as at lt, to provide an overlying biblike portion it. Tie ribbons l5 and Iii are secured, respectively, to the bottom and upper sheet adjacent the fold line l3, so that the free portion of the upper sheet can be secured to the lower sheet on opposite sides adjacent the fold line in the upper sheet.

As herein illustrated, the upper sheet 2 is made in two separate portions and an elastic band ll is marginally secured to the head end edge of the main portion of the upper sheet, and the overlying turned-back bib-like portion M is similarly secured to the other marginal edge of the elastic band ll, thus providing for additional fullness and freedom at this upper head end. Similarly, a similar elastic band 5 is secured to the bottom or foot end of the upper sheet, extending between the foot ends of the marginal seams 3 which secure the upper sheet 2 to the lower sheet I.

By the structure thus described it will be apparent that the childs feet are free, as well as its head, and that blankets laid upon the upper sheet with their upper ends inserted between the head end of the upper sheet and the overlying bib-portion I l cannot come in contact with the childs face, and thus avoid the annoyance common in all cases of contacting woolen blankets, and the avoidance of more serious dimculties where the child is allergic to wool.

Various modifications in the particular construction of the garment will readily suggest themselves, it being entirely feasible to make all of the side walls of the bottom independent of the sheet and secured thereto by scams, or otherwise, as economies in manufacture may suggest.

Having thus fully described the invention, I claim:

1. In combination, a mattress and a sleeping garment comprising a bottom sheet coextensive in area with the upper surface of the mattress with which it is used, means for removably securing said sheet on the mattress, an upper sheet of substantially the same'diniensions as the bottom sheet, the marginal edges of said upper sheet a seamed to the marginal edges of the lower sheet on the sides from the foot end for slightly more than half the length of said sheets, the free head end of said upper sheet folded back medially its length and transversely of the sheet, and complementary tie ribbons secured to the upper sheet at the ends of said transverse fold line and to adjacent points on the lower sheet.

2. Sleeping garment comprising two superposed sheets marginally secured together on their sides extending from the foot end toward the head end more than half their lengths, the free head portion of the upper of said sheets folded back transversely intermediate its length, complementary ties on said sheets at each end of said transverse fold, and means for holding the lower sheet in smooth fitting relationship to a mattress;

3. Sleeping garment comprising superposed sheets marginally secured together on their sides from the foot end to points spaced from the head end, the free head portion of the upper sheet folded transversely, elastic bands extending transversely of the upper sheet at said fold and at its foot end, tie cords on the said sheets, respectively, at each end of said fold, and means for securing the lower sheet in smooth surface contact with a mattress.

4. Sleeping garment comprising superposed I sheets marginally secured together by seams extending from the foot end to points spaced from the head end, elastic bands extending transversely of and secured to the head and foot ends of 4 the upper sheet, tie cords on the lower and upper sheets, respectively, at each end of the elastic band at the head end of the upper sheet, a biblike turn-back portion secured to the last mentioned elastic band and arranged to overlie the head end portion of the upper sheet, and means for securing said superposed sheets in smooth surface contact with a mattress.

5. Sleeping garment for use with a mattress, comprising a bottom sheet formed with peripheral walls, said walls having marginal inturned strips constituting a box-like structure adopted to embrace a mattress with which it may be used, and an upper sheet of substantially the same dim'ensions as the bottom sheet, the marginal edges of said upper sheet seamed to the marginal edges of the lower sheet on the sides from the foot end for slightly more than half the length of said sheets, the free head-end of the upper sheet folded back transversely medially of its length'and complementary fastening means at the respective ends of said fold line in the upper sheet and adjacent points on the sides of this lower sheet.
