Abstract

The Smart Zipper is designed to seal off all openings for bugs to escape from. The encasements come with a 3 sided zipper that come around and ends at the extended zipper part. The extended zipper is about 5 5/12 inches and has an extra lining inside to eliminate all spaces. Attached to the zipper extension is Velcro that folds in half to create a blockage in the path way. The concept in the design was to leave no passage way but eliminating all the free space and also add the seal wall for guaranteed protection.

Description

    FIELD OF INVENTION
  • The invention relates to a mattress encasements, and, more specifically is related to the extension closing on the mattress encasement. The extension that seals all openings for escape.
  • BACKGROUND INFORMATIONS
  • Bedbugs are known to be traveling pests that hide in dark places. Bed bugs can be found almost anywhere, mainly in used furniture, cruise ships, hotels, motels and in homes. Bedbugs feed off blood, only coming out an hour before dawn. After getting their blood meal they like to go back to their safe hiding place. Having such a flat and small body they are able to crawl and escape from almost anywhere.
  • The technique used is to starve the bed bugs within the mattress. The encasement covers all the surroundings and sealing off the exit. After the encasement is put on, the zipper area is closed off by an extension that folds over and closes forming a barrier.
  • Problems exist when either the encasement is ripped or the zipper is not closed all the way and there is room for the bugs to escape.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The objective of the current invention is to provide a structure to prevent bed bug escapement using an extension that closes and forms a barrier wall to block the passage.
  • Another objective is forming a housing for the bed bugs within the encasement and starving them.
  • In one embodiment, creating a seal for the mattress, box spring and pillow cases. The system covers the entire structure, with a closing mechanism that seals any openings for escape. The zipper extension is attached to the encasement and closes tight.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWING
  • The drawing included are not to scale. It is to give a better understand of the invention.
  • FIG. 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of a mattress encasement covering the mattress.
  • FIG. 2 is an enlarged view of the zipper extension closed.
  • FIG. 3 is an enlarged top view of the extension with the measurements.
  • FIG. 4 is an enlarged bottom view of the extension with the measurements.
  • FIG. 5 is an enlarged side profile of the extension.
  • FIG. 6 displays the fabrication and assembly.
  • FIGS. 7,9,11,13,15 shows the extension closing from a front view.
  • FIGS. 7,10,12,14,16 shows the extensions closing from a side view.
  • FIG. 18 is the section view of the extension when opened.
  • FIG. 19 is the section view of the extension when closed.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION
  • Referring to FIG. 1 it displays the mattress encasement covering the whole mattress and one side of the 3 sided zipper. It shows where the beginning of the zipper to the end with the extension. FIG. 2 is then enlarged view of the mattress encasement when closed on the mattress.
  • This mattress encasement is formed to fit a variety of different shapes and sizes of mattresses. Due to the fitting there might be room inside the extension was added forming a barrier/wall block from the passage way.
  • FIG. 3 demonstrates the measurements of the extension. F101 shows the measurement of length of the extension, F102 is the measurement size of the Velcro that is attached. F103 is the measurement of the width of the extension, and F104 is the measurement of the width of the Velcro.
  • FIG. 4 demonstrates the measurements of the extension from the back view. Just as in FIG. 3 it includes all length, width and Velcro sizes. It also illustrates the stitches embodied in the extension.
  • FIG. 6 demonstrates the fabrication and assembly of the extension. F105 is the base of the encasement that extends out from the mattress encasement itself. F106 is the extra layer of fabric that is added to lessen the amount of room available for escapement. F107 is the zipper that is stitched on to the two layers of fabric. F108 is the cover for the zipper on the extension. F109 is the Velcro that is stitched on top to be able to seal shut the extension to create a barrier/wall block.
  • FIG. 5 demonstrates the pieces from FIG. 6 all put together. F110 is where all the pieces are sewn together. The tight stitches will allow no room for the bed bugs to be able to crawl into the zipper extension of the encasement.
  • FIG. 7 demonstrates the extension while the zipper is open.
  • FIG. 9 demonstrates the zipper closed on the extension.
  • FIG. 11, 13 demonstrates the top half of the extension folding over.
  • FIG. 15 demonstrates the top view of the closed extension with the Velcro attached to one another.
  • FIG. 8 demonstrates the side view of the extension when the zipper is closed.
  • FIG. 10 demonstrates the side view of the extension when the zipper is open.
  • FIG. 12, 14 demonstrates the side view of the extension closing.
  • FIG. 16 demonstrates the side view of the extension closed with the Velcro attached to one another.
  • FIG. 18 demonstrates the section view from FIG. 17, (A) when the extension is opened.
  • FIG. 19 demonstrates the section view form FIG. 17, (A) when the extension is sealed by the velcros.
  • While the invention was emphasized and described with references to certain embodiments are merely possible implementation of devices and methods. Many variations and modifications can be made to the devices and methods without changes in the principal. Therefore it is intended that the invention not be limited to the particular embodiment disclosed, and all such, modification and variations are intended to be included herein within the scope of this disclosure.
