This invention is a comfort or blanket and has for its princi al ob]ect the pro vision of simple and. leasably connecting two sections of the comfort or blanket together, whereby when the device is in use a comparatively long comfort 35 abutting, although a plurality of flaps are provided which overlap each other and are a connection between the sections which will prevent the passage of air currents therebetween, although when it is desired to handle the blanket or comfort for purposes of wash; ing or patching the same with comparative ease, the flaps are disengaged for releasing the two sections from engagement with each other. i

A still further object of this invention is the production of a comfort or blanket formed of a sectional construction, wherein one section is provided with a flap extending for a considerable distance, therebeyond and having a plurality of securing elements upon each side thereof, while the remaining section is provided with a fiap formed thereon at a distance from the end of this particular section, this particular section and flap also being provided with securing means to cooperate with the securing elements upon the first mentioned section and flap,

thus permitting the two sections to be releasably united, while the overlapping of the flaps will prevent an air draft through the comfort or blanket at the point of unction of the two sections.

One practical form of construction'and assembly of the present invention will be hereinafter described and is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of a portion of a comfort or blanket, illustrating the two-sections thereof releasably connected together..

Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, it will be seen that the comfort or blanket comprises a primary section 1 and the auxiliary section 2. As herein illustrated, it will be noted that the sections are formed of the covering material 3 having filling 4. While this form of a construction is illustrated, it is obvious that any other suitable form of construction may be employed without departing from the spirit of the invention, for upon referring to the device it will be noted that the novelty resides in the manner of releasably' connecting the two sections together.

The primary section 1 has the covering 3 brought together and stitched as indicated at 5 to form a comparatively thick flap 6. This flap 6 is formed upon the primary section 1 at a point at a considerable distance from the end 7 of the primary section. The edge of the flap 6 terminates at a point adjacent the abutting end 7 of the primary section and'thus it is obvious that a receiving portion is formed between the body portion of the primary section and the flap 6. Socket members 8 are secured upon the inner surface of the flap 6 and upon the body portions of the primary section 1 at a point upon this primary section which is overlapped by the flap 6. It is of course obvious that these sockets 8 may be spaced as far apart or as close together as desired without departing from the spirit of the present invention.

The auxiliary section 4 has the covering 3 brought together at the abutting end ortion 9 thereof and stitched as indicate at 10. The covering is then extended for a considerable distance to form a projecting flap 11 which may be provided with a stifi'ening strip 12, carried therein, as shown in Fig. 3 if it is desired to reinforce or strengthen this projecting flap 11 although of course it is obvious this strip is not absolutely necessary in the operation of the invention. As just stated, the projecting flap 11 is formed adjacent the abutting end 9 of the auxiliary section 2 and for this reason projects therebeyond and it will further be noted that the projecting flap is formed in substantial alinement with the top or outer surface of the auxiliary section 2. The ball members 13 are permanently secured upon the projecting flap .11 adjacent the central longitudinal axis thereof and the number of these ball members is intended to correspond with the number of socket members carried upon the primary section and upon the flap 6.

It is of course obvious that if so desired, instead of using the ball and socket connections as before specified, any suitable scour-- ing elements, such for instance as buttons and button holes or hooks and eyes maybe employed without departing from the spirit of the present invention. It is of course more desirable to use the balls and sockets in view of the fact that no air space is provided through which a draft of air might pass as in the use of buttons and button holes, while the balls and sockets may be more easily secured together when the flaps are brought into overlapping engagement than could possibly be the case, where hooks and eyes are used.

When this invention is in use, the primary and auxiliary sections are positioned adjacent each other to cause the abutting ends 7 and 9 to engage each other. The flaps 6 may then be folded away from the abutting ends 7 and at this time the projecting flap 11 may be swung over the abutting end of the primary section 1 and owing to the formation of this projecting flange 11 at a point adjacent the outer or top surface ofthe auxiliary section 4, it is obvious the two sections may be brought into direct alinement with each other to form a comparatively even inner surface as indicated in Fig. 3. The ball members 13 upon one surface of the flap 11 may then be brought into a gripping engagement with the socket members upon the body portion of the primary section 1. The flaps 6 may then be swung to overlap and fit upon the projecting flap 11 and at this time the socket members upon the inner surface of the flap 6, will be brought into a gripping engagement with the ball member 13 carried upon the outer surface of the flap 11. By this double connection of the projecting flap 11 with the body portion and also the flaps 6 of the primary section, it is obvious that it will practically be impossible to pull the two sections apart under ordinary circumstances 'and for this reason the two sections of the comfort or blanket will be held together.

Special attention is directed to the construction of the flap 6. At a distance from the abutting'end of the rimary section-1, a substantial internal poc et portion is provided in which the projecting flap of the auxiliary section will extend when the two sections are connectedtogether. This will form a very close connection between the two sections and the flaps so as to provide a connection between the two sections which will prevent a draft of air from passing between the abutting endsof the two sections under an% conditions when the device is in use.

y referring to the foregoing description, it will be seen that a ver simple and yet very eflicient structure has con provided for releasably connecting the two sections of the comfort or blanket together, whereby the sections may be separated for facilitating the easy handling thereof for washing or atching or any ot er purpose necessary, altliough when the two sections are connected together the forming of the flaps is such as will prevent the accidental separation of the two sections and at the same time provide a connection which will prevent the passage of an air draft between the abutting ends of the sections.

It is of course obvious that it is not intended to limit the construction of the present invention to the specific form herein shown as only one form of the invention has been illustrated and described and for this reason it is intended to include 'all such forms of the invention as properly come within the scope of the invention as claimed.

What is claimed is:

1. A blanket of the class described comprising a pair of sections, said sections including covering thereon, the ends of said sections abutting, the covering of one section being gathered and stitched together at a distance from the abutting end of the section, thus forming a flap extending toward the end of the section, the covering of the remaining section being stitched at the end of the section, thus forming a flap projecting beyond the end of the last mentioned section, said last mentioned flap fitting upon the top of the first mentioned section, and under the first mentioned flap, thus allowin the first mentioned flap to fit upon the top 0% the last mentioned flap, and means for re leasablyretaining said flaps and the body of the first mentioned section together, whereby air currents will be prevented from passing through the abutting ends of said sections.

2. A blanket of the class described, comprising a plurality of sections, said sections being gathered and stitched together at a distance from the abutting end of the section, thus forming a flap extending toward the end of the section, the covering of the 5 remaining section being stitched at the end of the section thus forming a flap extending beyond the end of the last mentioned section, said last mentioned flap fitting upon the top of the first-mentioned section and under the 10 first mentioned flap, thus allowing the first mentioned flap to fit upon the top of the last mentioned flap whereby air currents will be prevented from passing through the abuttinlg ends of said sections.
